If you own a brick and mortar business chances are you lock it when you leave and take every precaution to keep it secure. Perhaps you install cameras or an alarm system or hire a security guard to watch over the building in the off hours. What about doing the same for your website?
Technology advances each year.
Code can become outdated and vulnerable.
Content Management Systems (CMS) are constantly being updated as the latter change
When is the last time you thought about maintaining your website? It is important that necessary updates are managed to avoid downtime from applications breaking or hackers from targeting your site. Google knows when a website is compromised and it will flag it.
So what options do you have as business owner?
- Do it yourself, but you’ll have to understand a little bit about web development, your CMS and troubleshooting if updates don’t go as planned.
- Use a hosting provider that will automatically update your website for you. Only for a CMS platform such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, but not a static html site. These types of hosting services are more expensive and can run $30 per month or more.
- Hire a web developer to manage the monthly or quarterly maintenance updates.
At Mid-West Digital, we encourage all clients to consider maintenance and we’ve cleaned up many sites that have been hacked because they have not been maintained. Our team of experienced web developers can watch over your website or get it back on track. Let us know if you need help!
