In 1969, a marketer by the name of Jack Trout wrote in the national publication Industrial Marketing, “positioning is a game people play in today’s me-too market place.” He made the case back then that the typical consumer is overwhelmed with unwanted advertising and basically mentally throws away what is not needed at that time.
He took this research to the next level in 1981 with the book Positioning…The Battle for Your Mind.
Trout talked about the positioning ladder. If you aren’t in the top three rungs…you aren’t in the game.
Whereas Trout talked about the positioning battle for the mind…we are now talking about the positioning battle on the web. It’s all the same fight.
That’s why Mid-West Digital was built by business people for business people. Because we get it.
So here is the question…do you want a web focused company who gets business or do you want a business focused company that gets the web.
They are different. Trust me.
I know where I would put my money.
Jack Trout knew it in 1969. Where have you been?
